The overall project objectives of the Desert Hot Springs Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan is to create a connected bicycle and pedestrian network based upon goals and objectives, land use and citizen/stakeholder input. Through a series of public workshops, over 25 bicycle projects were identified with pedestrian improvements focused around connections to schools and parks. The City already had a Safe Routes to School plan in place so the KTUA team identified the various improvements of that plan and incorporated additional projects. Six priority projects were identified from the workshops to move further into grant ready schematics and cost estimation for the City to begin their application process.
As part of the implementation phase, KTUA develop phased implementation diagrams on cost-effective ways to begin the installation of some of the bicycle facilities. This section identified strategies for the City to install bike lanes, prior to improving them to protected bike lanes or cycle tracks.
