Main Street Promenade, Lemon Grove

KTU+A worked with the project civil engineers, artists and City of Lemon Grove staff to develop a refined concept plan and construction documents to implement a smart growth design concept for the Main Street Promenade project in Lemon Grove. The refined concept was based on a previous concept developed by the City of Lemon Grove (and an adjacent developer) as part of SANDAG’s Smart Growth Capital Project Incentive program. The original concept provided a good foundation for the project team to work with, however more detail, interpretive elements and program development for site activation were provided by the team. Several site constraints and utility conflicts also had to be resolved. KTU+A worked with the local artist and the Lemon Grove Historical Society to help capture the rich historic background of the area which focused primarily on agriculture. The resulting theme of “Where Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow Meet” integrates the early history of the area with the modern technology of today in an interactive yet sustainable environment.

The project gained the support of the community, Lemon Grove School District, Lemon Grove Historical Society and Lemon Grove City Council with construction scheduled for 2012.
