Celebrating 50 Years: 1970s Scripps Mercy Hospital Fountain, Hillcrest
In the late 1970s, Mercy Hospital’s increase in health services required a major addition to their Hillcrest San Diego facility and the construction of a new entryway and parking structure. Designed by KTUA, this entrance park is the major greenspace within the medically-oriented community and provides relaxation and reflection space for visitors, staff and neighbors. The stepped water feature serves as the terminus of the main building axis. The project improvements required the conversion of an unsightly parking lot into an urban entry park that provides a focus for the community and a symbolic entrance to the large medical complex.
