Mira Mesa High School, with 2,500 students on a 44-acre facility, has one of the strongest music programs in the district. The program had overgrown is existing practice space and need a state-of-the-art facility for acoustic performances. One of the guiding design strategies focused on the placement of the building on the campus to accommodate band access to the adjacent stadium, truck access and transport needs for equipment, and promote school spirit with an expressive, iconic building.
KTUA’s scope of work addressed the renovation of the landscape around existing buildings and the preparation of planting and irrigation plans and specifications for a new quadrangle open space and landscape surrounding the new music building. The landscape includes outdoor classrooms, decorative seat walls, concrete planters, stairs, ramps, bioswales, and a grass amphitheater. The renovated and new landscaped areas also include low-water native drought tolerant plantings and a high-efficiency irrigation system.
KTUA provided construction administration services, client meetings, and coordination with the San Diego Unified School District Representatives.
