San Diego, CA
This elementary school serves 700 students in grades K-5 on a 6.3-acre site. The school is named for the Olympic track star who advocated for urban youth. The new campus features 32 classrooms, a joint-use playfield, multi-purpose building, library media center, lunch shelter, covered walkways and energy efficient design features. The architectural design represents the spirit of Florence Griffith Joyner in her dynamic swiftness and strength. The school will open in September 2007.
KTUA participated in public workshops, and worked closely with the design team on the development of the site plan. Landscape construction documents were prepared for the school, joint-use field and off-site street improvements.
